How to Use Advance Clearing Serum on Sensitive Skin: Start Small, Build Slowly

· Farnaz Khan

AI-generated editorial close-up illustrating sensitive-looking skin with natural texture and mild cheek redness, not a customer photograph

By Farnaz Khan, founder of SHIFAH

Want to improve the appearance of dark marks and uneven skin tone, but nervous about introducing a serum because your skin is sensitive?

My advice is simple: don’t rush your skin.

You don’t need a thick layer, and you don’t need to start every night. At SHIFAH, we recommend patch testing first, beginning with just one or two nights a week, and building gradually. A little product, a gentle routine and consistency matter more than doing everything at once.

Our Advance Clearing Serum combines 10% THD Vitamin C, 4% niacinamide and bakuchiol with hydrating and skin-conditioning ingredients to help improve the appearance of dullness, dark spots and post-blemish marks. For sensitive skin, how you introduce it is an important part of your routine.

Patch test before your first full application

Before applying Advance Clearing Serum across your face, patch test according to the instructions on your packaging. Do the same with any other new skincare, and introduce products one at a time so you can understand what suits your skin.

If your skin is already sore, actively irritated or reacting to another product, don’t rush to add a new serum. Keep your routine simple until your skin is comfortable again. After a professional treatment, follow your practitioner’s advice about when to restart active skincare.

Start with one or two nights a week

Once you have patch tested, begin with Advance Clearing Serum on one or two evenings a week, leaving rest nights between applications.

If your skin stays comfortable, add one extra night the following week. Continue adding one night each week, gradually working towards daily evening use.

This is a gradual build-up, not a deadline. If your skin needs longer at a particular stage, stay there. Daily use is the destination only if your skin tolerates it and it follows your packaging directions.

Burning, persistent stinging, redness or peeling are not signs that you should push harder. Stop if irritation occurs, and seek advice if symptoms persist.

One pea-sized amount, not one pea per area

This is one of the most important things I want you to remember: use a single pea-sized amount of Advance Clearing Serum for your application, following the face-and-neck directions on the pack.

Not a full dropper. Not a thick coating. Not another pea-sized amount for every dark mark.

Smooth a thin layer over clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. More serum does not mean better results. Using the right amount also helps avoid unnecessary waste.

Try our Glow Hack with Fig Moisturiser

For our sensitive-skin version of the Glow Hack, mix one pea-sized amount of Advance Clearing Serum with two pumps of Fig Barrier Repair Moisturiser in your palm, then gently smooth over your skin.

Mix only what you need immediately before applying. Don’t combine the products inside their bottles.

The pea-sized amount still applies when mixing. Adding moisturiser does not mean you should add extra serum, and this technique does not replace patch testing or your gradual introduction schedule.

Fig Moisturiser is our choice for this routine because it brings together five ceramides, squalane and moisture-attracting ingredients to support hydration and the skin’s moisture barrier.

Already have a cleanser and moisturiser you love? You don’t need to replace everything at once. Keep your routine familiar, introduce the serum carefully, and check suitability before mixing it with a different formula.

Sensitive skin? Don’t overlook our Hypochlorous Spray

For sensitive-skin customers, one product I especially want you to look at is our SHIFAH Hypochlorous Skin Purifying Spray, the spray you may know as our antibacterial spray.

It has a simple, three-ingredient formula: water, sodium chloride and hypochlorous acid, without added fragrance or alcohol. It is a straightforward addition for customers who want to keep their routine pared back.

Use the spray on clean skin according to the bottle’s directions, then allow it to dry fully before applying your serum or moisturiser. Patch test this product too.

Think of the spray as its own skincare step, not something needed to activate your serum, and not a reason to continue using products that are irritating your skin. It is not a treatment for eczema, rosacea or acne.

Your simple sensitive-skin routine

A serum is one part of the picture. Cleansing, moisturising and daytime sun protection each have their own job.

Morning

  1. Gently cleanse with Hydrating Cleanser.
  2. Apply Hypochlorous Skin Purifying Spray as directed and let it dry.
  3. Follow with Fig Moisturiser.
  4. Finish with SPF50 Sunscreen Serum, using the amount and reapplication instructions on its packaging. Use shade and protective clothing too.

Serum evenings

  1. Cleanse with Hydrating Cleanser.
  2. Apply Hypochlorous Skin Purifying Spray as directed and let your skin dry fully.
  3. Mix one pea-sized amount of Advance Clearing Serum with two pumps of Fig Moisturiser using the Glow Hack, and gently apply.

Rest evenings

Cleanse with Hydrating Cleanser, use the spray as directed, let it dry, and follow with Fig Moisturiser. Leave Advance Clearing Serum out on these nights.

Apply sunscreen separately. Never mix SPF into the Glow Hack or reduce your sunscreen to a pea-sized amount. That instruction is for Advance Clearing Serum.

Build a routine, not an overloaded shelf

If you need the foundations, our Sacred Skin Barrier Support Bundle brings together Hydrating Cleanser, Fig Moisturiser and SPF50 Sunscreen Serum.

Add Hypochlorous Skin Purifying Spray separately, then introduce Advance Clearing Serum gradually when your skin is comfortable. The spray and Advance Clearing Serum are not included in that three-product bundle.

Already own the essentials? Buy only the missing steps. You don’t need extra exfoliants or several new serums to get started.

Get yourself back, gently

Sensitive skin deserves patience, not pressure.

Patch test. Start with one or two nights a week. Use one pea-sized amount. Add a night each week only while your skin remains comfortable, and keep your supporting routine consistent.

If you’re unsure where to begin, email info@sxcglobal.com for help choosing your SHIFAH routine. We’d rather help you choose thoughtfully than leave you guessing.

Get yourself back, one gentle step at a time.
