Why I Created SHIFAH: Skincare, Faith and a Purpose Beyond the Bottle

· Shifah

Founder Shifah beside text about her skin journey, SHIFAH and giving through sadaqah

Doctors told me I was scarred for life. When my mum saw my face, she cried.

I had suffered third-degree burns. But alongside everything I was going through, I had my faith. And I had something my parents had taught me long before SHIFAH existed: sadaqah.

My story has also been shared in the press. You can read the Daily Star feature about my burns experience and the Daily Express feature about my skin journey.

What my parents taught me

I have been tested throughout my life. My parents taught me to turn to Allah, to give and to remember people facing hardship, even during my own difficult times.

They taught me the importance of sadaqah, voluntary charity, in the tradition of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. I grew up with the belief that sadaqah could help avert or lessen calamity. That belief gave me hope when I needed it.

When my mum cried at the sight of my face, and I was told the scarring would be lifelong, those lessons stayed with me. Faith, sadaqah and the willingness to keep going became part of how I faced that chapter.

Through this trial, I learnt my purpose

My experience made skincare deeply personal. I wanted to understand ingredients, what each product was there to do and how to build a routine that made sense.

That journey became SHIFAH. The name means healing in Arabic. For me, it carries more than the idea of how skin looks. It holds my faith, my family's teaching and the purpose I found through a painful trial.

I wanted to build something that cared for people buying the products and also reached people who might never be our customers.

My journey as a female founder in skincare

Today, I am the female founder of SHIFAH, a UK halal skincare brand. But behind that title is the personal story you are reading here: a difficult trial, the lessons my parents gave me and a purpose that reaches beyond the bottle.

Being a female entrepreneur is part of my story. What matters to me is what I build with that opportunity: skincare people can understand, thoughtful care and a business where every purchase helps feed someone in need.

One skin, several concerns: the SHIFAH approach

Your skin does not always have just one concern. You might notice uneven tone and dark marks, while your skin also feels dry. You might want a brighter-looking complexion and a routine that feels comfortable under makeup.

That is why I want you to understand the blend, not just the biggest ingredient name on the bottle.

SHIFAH Advance Clearing Serum brings together vitamin C, niacinamide, bakuchiol, peptides and moisture-binding ingredients. Different ingredients, different jobs, within one formula:

  • THD vitamin C: brightening-focused care for dullness and uneven-looking tone.
  • Niacinamide: supports the skin barrier and the appearance of uneven tone and texture.
  • Bakuchiol: helps improve the appearance of texture and fine lines.
  • Hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid: help attract and retain moisture.
  • Peptides and CoQ10: complement the formula's skin-conditioning care.

It is about complementary care, not asking one ingredient to do everything. Check your packaging for the full ingredients and current directions.

Plant-based ingredients have a place in that approach too: bakuchiol in Advance Clearing Serum, and jojoba and shea butter in Glow Moisturiser. For me, thoughtful skincare means understanding the finished formula and how it suits your skin, rather than choosing on one ingredient name alone.

The right products need a routine you can follow

I do not want you buying more and more products without understanding how to use what you already have.

Cleanse first. Use Glow Toner on your scheduled toner days. Introduce Advance Clearing Serum gradually, follow with Glow Moisturiser and keep SPF50 as a separate daytime step. A simple routine gives every product its place. I have explained each step in our guide to using vitamin C serum, so you can build a routine around what you already own.

If you already have a cleanser and SPF50 that suit you, the Glow Hack Bundle brings together Advance Clearing Serum and Glow Moisturiser. If you are starting from scratch, the Glow Up Starter Bundle includes the five steps. You do not need both.

Give your skin time. We recommend a 90-day check-in with consistent use as tolerated, rather than judging your routine after a few applications. Results and timescales vary. If something irritates your skin, pause and reassess; consistency does not mean pushing through discomfort.

Every purchase feeds ♡

This is where my parents' teaching lives on in SHIFAH.

With every purchase, we donate three meals to people in need. Sadaqah is part of the purpose of this business, not something separate from it.

When I give, my intention includes the wellbeing and healing of my customers. It is my way of carrying forward what my parents taught me: remember others, give what you can and keep hope alive.

Your purchase helps feed someone hungry. Whatever your beliefs, you are welcome here, and your order is part of that giving.

Faith, care and consistency

For me, this is the SHIFAH way: thoughtfully chosen ingredients, a routine you understand, and giving with a sincere intention.

I hope the people we support will remember us in their prayers, just as I remember my customers in mine. That is something precious to me, beyond anything a bottle can promise.

Have faith. Be consistent with the care that suits your skin. Keep going.

Through my trial, I found a purpose. With SHIFAH, I get to put that purpose into practice, one order and one act of giving at a time.
