What it does

Conditioning plant oil: black seed oil helps soften and condition hair and scalp and contains the antioxidant thymoquinone.

Islamic heritage

Hadith: "There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5688; Sahih Muslim 2215. Authentic.)
The hadith speaks of black seed generally. It is not evidence that any cosmetic product treats a disease, and we never claim that.

Traditional use Traditional use

Traditional use: black seed and its oil have been used for centuries in the Middle East, South Asia and North Africa, including for hair and scalp care.

What the research says

A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials looked at Nigella sativa in different forms for several skin conditions. Reviews also describe its cosmetic uses and antioxidant compounds.

Limitations, honestly

Trials are mostly small and use different preparations, and most research focuses on skin rather than hair. Studies on black seed alone don't show results for SHIFAH hair products, which haven't been clinically tested for these outcomes.
