Using Serum but Not Seeing Results? Check Your Skincare Routine

Using serums but not seeing results? Have you checked your skincare routine?
Your next glow could start with giving every step a clearer purpose. Are you cleansing gently? Using the right amount of serum? Following with moisturiser? Keeping SPF50 as your daily protection step?
At SHIFAH, I want you to feel confident about your skincare. Here is how to build a routine around Advance Clearing Serum, bringing brightening care, hydration and protection together for a fresher, more even-looking complexion.
Think of skincare as nourishment
Think of a balanced meal: different ingredients bring different benefits, and regular habits help you make the most of them. Skincare is a little like that. Vitamin C, vitamin B3, peptides and hydrating ingredients each have a useful role in a considered formula.
A clear routine brings those roles together, making it easier to stay consistent and enjoy your skincare.
Plant-based ingredients with a place in your routine
Plant-based ingredients are part of the SHIFAH approach, alongside vitamins, peptides and moisture-binding ingredients. Bakuchiol in Advance Clearing Serum supports smoother-looking texture, while jojoba and shea butter in Glow Moisturiser help soften skin and reduce moisture loss. Glow Toner brings botanical ingredients such as liquorice and turmeric into its brightening-focused blend.
Advance Clearing Serum also includes olive and aloe. Olive, mentioned alongside the fig in Surah At-Tin, verse 1, holds a special place in my faith. That connection between nature, thoughtful care and purpose is part of the story behind SHIFAH. Everyone is welcome here; you can read more in my founder story.
Step 1: cleanse. Give your skincare routine a fresh start
Remove makeup, excess oil and the day's build-up before applying your skincare. The Hydrating Cleanser in our Glow Up Starter Bundle is your starting point.
A gentle cleanse leaves skin fresh and comfortable. Use it to remove build-up while respecting the natural oils that help keep your skin feeling soft.
Step 2: Glow Toner. Refresh and prepare
SHIFAH Glow Toner Mist with Vitamin C sits after cleansing on your scheduled toner days. Glycerin and sodium hyaluronate attract moisture, while vitamin C, liquorice and turmeric feature in its brightening-focused blend.
Think of it as your pre-serum preparation step: refreshing, hydrating care before the next layer. Hydration helps keep the outer skin comfortable and ready for the rest of your routine.
Start slowly: oily or combination skin, up to 2–3 times weekly; dry or sensitive skin, 1–2 times weekly if tolerated. Follow your packaging and keep toner to the days that suit your introduced routine.
Step 3: how to use vitamin C serum in your skincare routine
SHIFAH Advance Clearing Serum brings together ingredients selected for brighter, more even-looking skin, hydration and the appearance of fine lines:
- Vitamin C (THD): brightening-focused care for dullness and uneven-looking tone.
- Niacinamide, or vitamin B3: supports barrier care and a more even-looking complexion.
- Hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid: attract and retain moisture for hydrated, plumper-looking skin.
- Peptides: complement firmness-focused care.
- Bakuchiol: supports smoother-looking texture and the appearance of fine lines.

Use a pea-sized amount in a thin layer on clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. If you are new to active skincare, start one or two nights a week and introduce gradually, following your current packaging. Patch test before first use and pause if irritation develops.
If your skin becomes uncomfortable, our SOS routine guide explains when to simplify and seek advice.
Step 4: serum before moisturiser. Keep skin soft and comfortable
Follow with SHIFAH Glow Moisturiser with Vitamin C. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid attract moisture; jojoba and shea butter soften skin and help reduce moisture loss.
Serum and moisturiser are teammates with different jobs: focused care followed by hydration and comfort. Keep layers light and let each step settle for a routine that feels good on your skin.
Step 5: SPF50 every morning
If uneven tone and dark spots are your concern, daytime protection belongs beside your brightening care. UV exposure can contribute to pigmentation, so make sunscreen a consistent part of your morning.
Our SHIFAH SPF50 Sunscreen Serum, included in Starter, combines sunscreen with moisture-focused skincare. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid attract moisture, squalane conditions skin, and ceramide NG and niacinamide complement its skin-conditioning care.
Apply separately after moisturiser, following the packaging for amount and reapplication. Never mix sunscreen into your serum or moisturiser. Use shade and protective clothing too.

Follow your product packaging for the application amount. Add Glow Toner only on your scheduled toner days.
A routine for glowing skin: hydration now, longer-term goals
Enjoy the fresh, hydrated finish of your routine while giving your tone goals time. With Glow Moisturiser, the immediate focus is softer-feeling skin, hydration and a dewy-looking finish.
Its lightweight, non-greasy finish creates a hydrated base for SPF and makeup. Let each layer settle and keep amounts light. Your finish will depend on your skin and the products you pair it with.
Over time, the goals are a brighter, more even-looking complexion and improvements in the appearance of dullness, dark spots and fine lines. Enjoy the feel and finish now while giving those longer-term goals consistent care.
Why we recommend a 90-day check-in
Give your routine time to become a consistent habit. We recommend a 90-day check-in with regular use as tolerated, so you can review your chosen concern alongside hydration, comfort and how the routine fits your day.
Skin is continually renewing. Visible improvements can develop over successive rounds of renewal, and the pace varies with your skin, age and concern. Results and timescales vary; dark marks can take longer than three months.
Melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, sit in the deepest part of the epidermis. Pigment can be present at different depths, which helps explain why considered care and patience matter more than harsh scrubbing.
Take a starting photo and compare monthly in similar lighting. Our dark-spots and acne-scars guide helps you distinguish colour changes from texture when tracking your progress.

Already have a cleanser and SPF50? Meet Glow Hack
The SHIFAH Glow Hack Bundle gives you Advance Clearing Serum and Glow Moisturiser to use alongside your suitable cleanser and SPF50. It is your serum-and-moisturiser pairing for focused care, softness and a fresh-looking finish.
For the Glow Hack technique, mix a pea-sized amount of Advance Clearing Serum with two pumps of Glow Moisturiser in your palm immediately before applying, following the bundle directions and your packaging. Use this instead of layering the two separately.
Cleanse first, with Glow Toner beforehand only on scheduled toner days. In the morning, apply SPF50 separately afterwards. Never add sunscreen to the mix or store the serum and moisturiser premixed in their bottles.
Glow Hack contains the serum and moisturiser only. Cleanser, toner and SPF are sold separately.
